In 2022, Alison Shunneson, of Runt Bro Properties acquired this property for $2.8 million, following her successful renovation of the neighboring Brandin Iron Motel.

Shunneson has big plans for the Ahwahnee Motel. The aging roadside inn is being transformed into 31 modern apartments, including 8 studios and 23 one-bedroom units. Runt Bro Properties, which converted the neighboring motel, currently rents studios for $825 to $875 per month and one-bedroom units for $925 to $975. We anticipate the Ahwahnee units will offer similar pricing.

When East Colfax was the main route for tourists heading to the mountains, motels like the Ahwahnee thrived during its heyday. Over the years, many of these properties have fallen into disrepair, becoming relics of a bygone era. Now, with the new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system under construction along Colfax, the future of this corridor remains uncertain.
