The controversy surrounding the Ford Amphitheater in Colorado Springs stems from significant noise complaints from nearby residents following the venue’s opening in August 2024. Over 600 complaints were filed within the first weeks, with locals reporting excessive noise levels disrupting their daily lives. Some residents, including veterans with PTSD, were particularly disturbed by the unexpected use of fireworks at concerts, further exacerbating concerns.


Despite adhering to city-imposed noise limits and holding a hardship permit allowing higher decibel levels, many neighbors still claim that the amphitheater’s concerts produce sound levels that are too loud, causing vibrations that can be felt in their homes. Complaints range from loud music and low-frequency bass to the disruptive nature of fireworks used during events.

In response to the backlash, the venue’s operators, Venu, have committed to several noise mitigation strategies. These include eliminating fireworks (except for the Fourth of July), increasing the height and thickness of sound barriers on the venue’s eastern perimeter, adjusting speaker positions, and exploring further physical sound containment methods. Despite these promises, many residents remain skeptical about the effectiveness of these measures, particularly as they continue to file complaints and pursue legal action.

The controversy underscores a broader challenge of balancing large-scale entertainment venues with the needs and rights of nearby homeowners.
