Wynkoop Crossing bridge

Updated plans were just submitted for the Wynkoop Crossing bridge, part of the Ball Arena Redevelopment Project.

Rendering

The bridge will link Wynkoop Street across Speer Boulevard, connecting Union Station and Lower Downtown directly to the future Ball Arena neighborhood and River Mile.

Rendering

The design blends function with history.

A sweeping arch recalls Speer Boulevard’s family of bridges, while splayed paths open the structure to sunlight and pedestrian flow. The Lower Downtown landing features a gentle 5% ramp for bikes and ADA access, eliminating the need for elevators.

Importantly, the plan minimizes impacts to the Downtown Children’s Playground, keeping the play area intact while adding new pedestrian routes into the space.

Landscaping will transform what was once surface parking into an extension of Speer’s park network, complete with creek overlooks, seating, and improved access to Cherry Creek Trail.

Rendering

Construction will roll out in phases, beginning with deep foundations and abutments before moving into the steel span, ramps, and landscaping. Most staging will occur off-site to limit neighborhood disruptions.

Aerial View

If successful, Wynkoop Crossing won’t just move people across Speer, it will weave together Union Station, LoDo, and the new Arena district into one connected urban fabric.
